Wet material enters the inclined rotating drum from the tail end. Internal lifting flights cascade it into a uniform curtain that exchanges heat fully with hot air from the furnace, bringing moisture from 30%+ down to 12%–18% at discharge. A waste-heat recovery section preheats incoming material with exhaust heat, cutting energy use significantly.

For pelletizing, 12%–18% is the target range. Fresh sawdust or washed material above 30% must be dried first, otherwise the pellet mill output and forming rate drop sharply.
